The Magic of Tahoe

Free yourself to explore mixed-media abstract painting using a variety of new materials on canvas and watercolor paper.  This is not another "ho hum" painting class, it is fun and motivating!  The emphasis will be on the artist's own interpretation of the subject using non-traditional techniques in your paintings... can you believe industrial supplies?  All acrylic paints will be used with emphasis on design and composition.  The instructor will provide some supplies.

Workshop Supply List ( I will bring many of these supplies for you, also):

  • Supports:
--- 1 sheet 300 lb. cold press watercolor paper cut in half
    --- one canvas 16" x 20"
--- if you have some small scrap pieces of illustration or matt board
(white, no bigger than 16" x 20" for experiments only)
--- Also, various sizes of any other supports (canvas, papers, etc.)

  • Art Tissue - 1 package white only (found in most art supply stores0.

  • Acrylic Paint - any band, any color, bring your favorites.
My favorite is Golden Liquid Acrylic.

  • Acrylic all-purpose brushes.  Loew Cornell has a wonderful cheap 3 pack brush set (#1177 flats), 2 mall rounds (available at Michael's)

  • Acrylic matt medium (liquid bottle), Acrylic Gel Medium (jar), White Gesso (8 oz. or smaller bottle)

  • Texture tools & stamping tools - anything you think would make good texture (i.e. painters tape, paper towels, plastic wrap, bubble wrap, 2" plastic palette knife, Exacto knife, stamps.  I will supply the class with some different, hard to find texture tools.

  • Rubber gloves - 1 package

  • Large water container, 3 small containers with lids (margarine containers are great).

  • Palette - paper palette or freezer paper

Remember this is an experiments class...bring what you think you will use.   I also love acrylic ink and might use one or two colors in my demonstrations (ink for you is optional). Mixed media is meant to be spontaneous, pushing the process to the limits..."Freeing your mind and having fun!"
